What do you get in ChatGPT once ConvOps is connected?
ChatGPT remembers facts about you. ConvOps holds how your team does a piece of work, and hands it to ChatGPT one step at a time.
- Tasks that follow your team's workflow, whichever AI the person uses.
- Approval steps that pause the run until someone approves.
- Team memory: decisions and notes recorded by any client, readable in ChatGPT.
- An audit row for each change the run makes.
ConvOps is the operations layer for AI agents: an MCP server that holds your team's process as workflows, with approval gates, a shared memory and an audit trail. It runs no AI models; ChatGPT does the work. The steps, gates and decisions come from the ConvOps workflow engine, and the approvals and audit trail from governance.
What do you need to connect ChatGPT to ConvOps?
A ChatGPT setup that supports remote MCP servers, a ConvOps account, and the server URL. Plans start free; see pricing for limits.
| You need | Detail |
|---|---|
| A ChatGPT plan with developer mode | Per OpenAI: Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts, on the web. Availability can depend on account and workspace policy. |
| Business or Enterprise workspace | Workspace policy can turn developer mode off; check with your workspace admin if the toggle is missing. |
| A ConvOps account | The Free plan works. Sign up at my.convops.app; a first sign-in without a workspace takes you to create one. |
| Server URL | https://mcp.convops.app/ |
How do I add the ConvOps MCP server to ChatGPT?
ChatGPT calls MCP servers "apps" and adds them through developer mode. OpenAI has renamed these menus more than once; the steps follow OpenAI's developer mode guide as of October 2026.
- 1
Turn on developer mode
In ChatGPT on the web, open Settings, Security and login, and switch on Developer mode. Read OpenAI's warning first: developer mode lets the model call write actions on the apps you add, so a model mistake or a malicious MCP server can change or destroy data.
- 2
Create an app for ConvOps
Go to ChatGPT Plugins (chatgpt.com/plugins), select the plus button, and give it a name (ConvOps) and a short description. Under the connection, choose a public endpoint and paste the URL. Choose OAuth for authentication.
mcp server url https://mcp.convops.app/ - 3
Sign in and review the tools
ChatGPT opens the ConvOps sign-in. Approve, then review the discovered tools and create the app.
- 4
Use it in a conversation
Start a new chat, open the "+" menu, choose Developer mode and select ConvOps. Be explicit the first time: "Use the ConvOps app to start a task for the launch email and follow its workflow."
Prefer an API key?
ChatGPT apps sign in with OAuth, so you do not paste an API key here. API keys from the ConvOps app (Settings, API Keys) are for scripts and clients that send a Bearer header.
"headers": {
"Authorization": "Bearer <your-api-key>"

What does a governed task look like in ChatGPT?
A launch email. ChatGPT drafts against the brand rules the team stored, the review step waits for the editor, and only then does the task move to scheduling.

example
Each tool row is ChatGPT calling ConvOps. The engine hands over one step, checks the gate when the agent asks to advance, and holds the run at an approval step until a person answers. The same task can be picked up later, by you or by a teammate in another client, at the step where it stopped.
Why does ChatGPT ask for confirmation, and how do you make it call ConvOps?
Expect confirmations. Per OpenAI, write actions in developer mode require your confirmation by default, and you can choose to remember the choice for the conversation. ConvOps tools that create tasks or advance a workflow are write actions, so ChatGPT asks before calling them. That prompt is ChatGPT's safeguard; ConvOps approval steps are a separate, recorded part of the workflow; the guide to human approval gates for AI agents explains the difference.
Name the app in your request. OpenAI recommends being explicit about which app and tool to use. "Use the ConvOps app to…" avoids ChatGPT answering from its own knowledge instead of starting the task.
Refresh after changes. If ConvOps tools change, open the app in ChatGPT and refresh it so the tool list is current.
Memory is per team, not per person. ChatGPT memory is about you; ConvOps memory holds what the team decided, readable from any client. See shared memory for AI agent teams.
Why is ConvOps not showing up in ChatGPT?
Almost always one of two things: the sign-in has not finished, or the server is off for this session. Start with the first row.
| Symptom | Fix |
|---|---|
| No Developer mode in settings | Check your plan supports it on the web. On Business or Enterprise, workspace policy may turn it off; ask your workspace admin. |
| Sign-in window does not open | Edit the app, confirm the authentication is OAuth and the URL is exactly https://mcp.convops.app/ . |
| ChatGPT answers but never calls ConvOps | Add the app from "+", Developer mode in a new chat, and name it in your request. |
| Too many confirmation prompts | Choose to remember approval for the conversation when ChatGPT asks. |
What else do people ask about ConvOps in ChatGPT?
Short answers, checked against the OpenAI documentation linked above.
Which ChatGPT plans can connect ConvOps?
Per OpenAI, developer mode is available to Pro, Plus, Business, Enterprise and Education accounts on the web, and availability can depend on account and workspace policy.
Does ConvOps use ChatGPT's memory?
No. ChatGPT memory is about you. ConvOps memory is shared by the team and the workflows, and any connected client can read it.
Can the ChatGPT desktop app use ConvOps?
The developer mode app is set up on the web. Codex inside the ChatGPT desktop app reads ~/.codex/config.toml, so see the Codex setup for that path.
Is it safe to give ChatGPT write access?
Developer mode lets the model call write tools, and OpenAI asks for confirmation on them by default. In ConvOps, the steps that matter can also be approval steps that wait for a person.
